Tipperary Sports Partnership are delighted to announce that the 2016 Tipperary Womens Mini Marathon will take place in Thurles on Sunday 25th September at 11am. Now in its seventh year, this 10k Womens Mini Marathon has grown from strength to strength since the inaugural event in Thurles in 2010.
International Athlete and winner of the 2016 Dublin Mini Marathon Siobhan O'Doherty recently launched the 2016 event with TSP Sports Co-ordinators Valerie Connolly and Elaine Cullinan. Also present was Billy Purcell, Tipperary County Athletics Board and Niall O'Sullivan, Tipp Mini Marathon Committee.
Siobhan said that it was great to be associated with this women in sport event for Tipperary and that she was delighted to launch the 2016 Mini Marathon and is looking forward to taking part on the 25th September. She wished the organisers every success with the event.
Elaine Cullinan, Sports Co-ordinator commented ‘As always this event is open to female runners, walkers and joggers of all abilities and mobility. We have been consistently getting in excess of 1000 ladies registering for the event and we would expect to see this number grow again in Thurles this year.
Registration is once again both online and postal, all details of which are on the website below. This year we will continue to make a charitable donation of €200 to the largest group to register that are raising funds for charitable causes. Details of your local Meet and Train or Fit 4 Life running group, where you can train for this event with others in a fun sociable and supportive environment is available on the website. We will also be once again providing a technical tee-shirt for all participants. Thanks must go to LIT Tipperary for providing sponsorship and making this possible.’
Valerie Connolly, Sports Co-ordinator commented ' It is wonderful to be part of this Women in Sport initiative in Tipperary as it provides a great opportunity for women of all ages to get active and take part in a women's only Mini Marathon’. All finishers will once again receive a specially designed race medallion. Spot prizes will also be distributed on the day. The event also provides a great opportunity for participants to raise funds for their own local charities. We hope that this year’s event will build on the success of the previous years. All participants will be chip timed so whether running or walking the 10k you will get an accurate time and the event as always is AAI measured and certified.
